When a mysterious character, known only as the ‘Maniac,’ is detained in a police station interrogation room, he uncovers a deadly cover up related to a series of protest bombings, the suspect in question having recently “accidentally” fallen out of a window to their death in this very building. Equipped with a tour de force of quick wit, acting prowess and a bag of various disguises, the Maniac evades arrest and infiltrates their ranks to manipulate the corrupt police officers into a truth-inducing hysteria!

"Punchy, political and abundant in satirical comedy, the Sheffield University Theatre Company’s production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist immersed the audience into the sleazy world of police corruption in the 1970s, staying harrowingly relevant 55 years since its release.
The staging set the scene, with details such as the window adding profound meaning to the play, allowing the political message to remain subtly throughout without allowing the audience to forget it. The costumes complimented the 70’s aesthetic greatly, and I particularly enjoyed the sheer amount of ties on the Maniac’s body.
Overall, I found this performance of Accidental Death of an Anarchist to be engaging, hilarious and poignant, serving as a sobering reminder regarding police brutality, yet peppered with hilarity that made an extremely enjoyable watch.

Last Night I Dreamt Of
"SUTCo have done an impressive job at putting on Accidental Death of an Anarchist, a play that at first may seem incredibly daunting. It is very funny and rather bonkers, yet somehow still feels relevant to today's political environment."

"From references to modern politics to timeless social commentary, SUTCo's Anarchist delivered both moments of deep reflection and moments of hilarity that left the audience laughing until their faces hurt.
The entire play was meticulously crafted, with the song choice of "bella ciao" being more than appropriate today (as well as in the years before). and for a play with as much humour as this one packed, each joke made me think twice. For every "haha", there was an instance where we were made to acknowledge the underlying themes of political brutality and corruption.
What probably had the most hard-hitting impact was the ending - without giving too much away - it served as a masterful way to provoke thought and introspection about the society we live in.
All of which goes to say, this play is a must watch (and Thomas the Tank Engine will haunt me in my dreams)."
